Palm Inc. has released an updated version of their Palm Desktop 4.1 software for Mac. The new version is ready for download from Palm’s Web site now.
Palm Desktop is the Mac interface to a Palm PDA. It combines date book, to do list, address book and other capabilities and helps you synchronize data you maintain on your Palm PDA. It runs natively in Mac OS X and also works with Mac OS 9.
The new version adds a “Send to Handheld Droplet” that enables users to more easily transfer image and audio files to the Palm PDA or to an expansion card.
Palm cautions that synchronization of audio and digital photo files requires a corresponding application to be installed on the handheld itself. Not all Palm handhelds have this feature or are even capable of supporting it. Some image and audio files may also require the use of an expansion card in order to work.
Such capabilities are included with Palm’s most recently released Zire PDA model, and other models in its line.
General system requirements for Palm Desktop 4.1 call for Palm Tungsten, Zire, i700, m500, m100, Palm VII, Palm V and Palm III series, as well as PalmPilot handhelds; a PowerPC-based Mac; Mac OS X 10.1.2 or higher; and Mac OS 9.1 and higher with 12MB available RAM and 25MB hard disk space.
