Apple has released an update to the firmware used by its AirPort Extreme Base Station. The new version, 5.0.4, is ready for download from Apple’s Web site.
The new firmware update is intended only for Apple’s AirPort Extreme Base Station — the new, higher speed base station introduced in January, not the older Graphite or Snow-colored 802.11b-based Base Stations.
Apple recommends the update for all customers with French AirPort Extreme Base Stations. It’s also useful for users whose AirPort Extreme Base Stations stop responding after being on a busy Ethernet network.
Apple noted that the firmware update fixes problems where an AirPort Extreme network appears to be unavailable. The problem is caused by excessive radio interference, according to Apple. The update causes the Base Station to recover easier when exposed to interference.
System requirements call for AirPort Software 3.0 or higher, Mac OS X 10.2 or 10.1.5 (with the Networking Update) and an AirPort Extreme Base Station.
