A survey of Apple Watch users, exploring the apps and health features customers actually use, offers a tantalising hint of the features Apple is thinking about adding to the device.
Apple asked, among other things, which third-party apps customers use to keep track of their health, and whether they have any apps installed to keep track of eating habits, medications and blood sugar levels, writes 9to5Mac.
Discussion of blood sugar is particularly interesting, given how long, and how persistently, rumours have suggested that the company will add a glucose meter to a forthcoming version of the Apple Watch. Gossip has particularly ramped up this year, with a report in January and patent activity in February pointing to an imminent announcement. The new model for 2021, expected to be called the Series 7, is heavily tipped to include this feature.
News of the survey, however, must now put a question mark over the chances of a 2021 rollout. If Apple genuinely intends to use the responses to influence its development roadmap, it will be far too late to make significant changes in time for a launch in autumn 2021. Perhaps the Series 8 is now a more realistic timeframe – unless this is one of those surveys that is intended only to back up a decision that’s already been made.
